There are few things that embody kid life more than soccer and cereal. Saturday mornings at the field with your fellow moms watching your kids score goals (or just run in circles) is a rite of passage for kids and parents alike.

Many of our contributors are soccer moms and love the ease and deliciousness of cereal. Some of our favorite cereals include Honey Bunches of Oats®, Honeycomb®, and Fruity Pebbles®. {Side note :: In a cooking rut in general? You’ll be amazed at the variety of recipes found here}.

Why We Love Soccer and Cereal

We polled our contributors, many of them soccer moms, and here is what they love about soccer and cereal:

“I let my kids have cereal for dinner on Sunday nights. My mom and dad did this for me and my brothers, and I’m just passing the tradition down.” — Lindsay D.

“We love cereal! We love it because it is the simplest form of independence for kids. They can’t mess up fixing cereal! It’s also easy to pair with fruit or muffins and you can put it in a baggie if you’re on the go! It’s so easy, and it makes them feel good to do something for themselves, not to mention the endless educational activities… I could go on and on!” — Lauren P.

“We love cereal at our house! So my oldest, who was iron deficient the first two years of her life, refused to eat meat, so the only way I could get her her iron was with iron-fortified cereal!!” — Julie T.

“My boys are big into soccer, and even my daughter. Cereal is great for a quick meal along with a smoothie on the go for those 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning games!” — Mary Anne

“We love granola cereal. Our fellas love making their own parfaits with plain organic yogurt, fresh berries, and granola. Several Post Cereals options are great in parfaits.” — Kathryn E.

“My daughter plays college soccer and still asks for cereal when she’s home.” — Chris L.

Julie S
Born at St. Vincents, Julie has lived in Birmingham nearly all her life, and she looks forward to meeting and connecting moms all over our community. Before having kids and co-founding Birmingham Mom Collective, she worked various jobs as a retail manager, merchandise manager, software support associate, and an HR recruiter. When she's not taking care of her two young children, you can find her (sometimes) working out, singing and fellowshipping at her church, playing golf (horribly), drinking sweet tea, and taking trips with her husband, Nathan. She loves all things coffee, Gilmore Girls, Disney World, Dolly Parton, and peanut m&ms!
