My little family loves to travel. Recently, we took a short trip to Atlanta. Here are a few family-friendly tips for the big city of Atlanta.
Children’s Museum of Atlanta
The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is great for toddlers to elementary age children. There are so many great activities, and best of all, if you are a member of the McWane Science Center, your tickets are 50% off for up to six tickets. The museum also has military, educator, and special day discounts and tickets, so make sure you check their website. If you are not purchasing discount tickets, I recommend buying your tickets online and skipping the ticket line. On Saturdays, it gets busy, so be sure to get there early if you are not a fan of crowds. With so many hotels around downtown, you can easily stay close to the museum. They have an area for strollers and coats, so you can walk regardless of the weather.
They have several different creation spaces that are led by Children’s Museum of Atlanta employees. Make sure you check out what is being offered that day and sign up early. There are plenty of hands-on activities to do while you wait. My son loved the museum and the different centers.
Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium is another great place to visit. I would recommend the aquarium for all ages. This is another place to arrive early. The aquarium can get very busy. Purchasing tickets online to skip the ticket lines not only saves time and line waiting, but also saves money. They do have an early bird special and an after 4:00 pm deal, so check out ticket pricing prior to planning your trip.
I also recommend downloading their app. It keeps you up-to-date on all the special events happening that day. The dolphin show is very popular. I would recommend getting to the show at least 30 to 45 minutes early. There are informational videos that play as you wait and it is good downtime. The dolphin show and the beluga whales were the highlights of my son’s trip.
Zoo Atlanta
Zoo Atlanta is another great place to visit. Again, you can purchase your tickets online to save time and money. Military members get into the zoo for free. If you are a member of the Birmingham Zoo, you get a 50% discount. Parking is a premium, so get there early. Their new exhibit “Scaly Slimy Spectacular” was a favorite for our family.
Skyview Atlanta
Skyview Atlanta is a great way to finish up the day. We stopped by right before the sun started setting. My son is intrigued by the heights, and the breathtaking view during sunset was something my husband and I enjoyed.
These are just a few things Atlanta has to offer. Close enough for a day trip, but with enough activities to fill a weekend, Atlanta has plenty to offer families.
