Birmingham

Hi! I have lived here for 40 out of my 46 years of living! I love Birmingham for several reasons. Most of all, I have so many memories from growing up here, and I have been able to pass some of those favorite places, where my husband and I met, etc. on to our children. I also love the Magic City because you can always venture out and discover new things. I will be honest with you, I feel like I am in a rut. I tend to eat at the same places often, because they are my favorite. My mom and I found out that the old Pizitz lunch counter is being built back up, so we promised each other we would go to lunch there ASAP! Are you in a rut? There are constantly new places opening, and yet we have our favorite places to go to as well. I love being a Mom in this city because since I grew up here, I feel excited that my kids have roots here now as well. Birmingham offers moms a lot of resources to be a great mom, too!

Moms

I am a Mom to Jane, age 20, at Auburn University; and to Gib, age 18, who is about to graduate high school. He will attend UAB this fall. I love being a mom to them because they are such a blessing, but they also challenge me in ways I did not anticipate when I was younger. I have pretty severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, so balancing that pain on a daily basis with trying to do “normal” things is a challenge for me. RA brings with it a lot of complications. I try my best to balance things, but I also have to take care of myself, or I am no good for anyone!

Blog

I am excited to be a part of the BMB team. I want to get to know these other women who are contributing and get to know my readers. I hope we can ask each other questions and challenge one another to grow, as we are moms who have different gifts and talents. I believe I can offer a unique perspective as I have older children. I have experienced the empty nest after one child leaving home, and I know what that feels like. I am excited for this to begin (especially now that I have cried tears over writing this blog, as I am anything but tech savvy!)

Stephanie W
An avid collector of black tole trays, you could find Stephanie at any antique shop on any given day. She has a passion for collecting art; after taking art history in college, this girl was never the same! She loves to daydream, read, eat lunch with friends, and most importantly, spend time with her family. She is very organized and detail oriented. She does not consider herself to be a creative person, but has to push herself when faced with the challenge of doing things outside her comfort zone. And, she laughs! She loves seeing the humor in the smallest things and thinks we should all have a good laugh every day. Dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2009, her biggest supporters are her precious husband of 24 years, David, and her two wonderful children, Jane and Gib. The sensitivity they bring to her is not overlooked, but humbly appreciated. She cannot begin to describe all that they have done for her, but just know that she thinks she has the best care in the world. They are truly golden. Her favorite Bible verse is Exodus 14:14, "The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still." She depends on the Lord for daily strength and knows the battle is not hers to fight alone.
