Birmingham

I moved to Birmingham six years ago from Indianapolis. I know a guy who did the opposite, and what he misses most about Birmingham is how everyone talks to you. What I miss most about Indy is how no one bothers you with idle chitchat! Seriously though, I like how most people in Birmingham are friendly. My absolute favorite thing about the city is the trees, though. It’s just a really pretty city in that way. Also, the Magic City Kitties Facebook page. It’s all cute Birmingham cats.

Moms

I’m mom to a wonderful 21-month-old daughter. I didn’t want children at all until I met my husband, so I’m ceaselessly amazed that I’m a mom and at how much love that entails. I love teaching her things and watching her turn into her own person. Having never spent time around children before (folks, I literally never even babysat before I had this kid), I do find many parts of it challenging. I have no idea what’s “normal” or how to handle certain things, so I read everything and worry constantly. But we do okay. I’m definitely more Erma Bombeck than Pinterest.

I also consider myself a mom to a greyhound and two and three-quarter cats. Our youngest is missing a leg so I joke that he’s not a full cat, he’s three quarters of a cat. He gets around great without it. He’s a climbing machine, as the puncture wounds in my couch can attest! I mediate a lot of toddler versus cat disputes, although overall they get along really well.

Blog

I’m excited to write for this blog because I love to write and hope I can encourage other moms. If I can stumble my way through motherhood, anyone should be able to! I also suffer from anxiety, which was magnified postpartum, and I hope sharing that struggle will help other people feel less alone and seek help, should they need it.
