Hello! I am thrilled to introduce myself to everyone! I love Birmingham and being a mom, so this lovely blog has me super excited!

Birmingham

I was born here in Birmingham at the tail end of the 1980s. My parents lived in Hoover at the time and then moved to Alabaster. I lived in Alabaster until I graduated from high school. After high school, I moved to downtown Birmingham to go to college at UAB. I absolutely love living in Birmingham! I have watched my hometown of Alabaster and the surrounding Birmingham metro area grow and transform over the past three decades. I love the up-and-coming food scene that is happening downtown. I wouldn’t consider myself a “foodie” but more of an “eatie” … if that’s a thing. I love going out to eat or bringing home take-out. My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants and exploring all the new, locally owned businesses. I think that Birmingham is a fantastic place to be a mom because there is so much support for moms in the community. There are lots of events for kids around the city, libraries everywhere, and a plethora of Chik-fil-A restaurants. Plus, whether you stay at home or work, you can always find some way to kick back and relax with the family on the weekends.

I am a mom to two beautiful children. My oldest is Liam, my little buddy. He is two years old going on 16 and loves to help Mommy out (even if it is not really helping, like putting the cat in time-out — he means well). I am also a new mommy to a gorgeous baby girl named Daphne. She is brand new as of August 19 (11 days early) and an absolute doll! I love watching my kids learn new skills that I taught them or that they just picked up on their own. It makes my heart smile to see their personalities develop and watch little traces of my husband and me peeking through. Being a mom is not without its challenges, though. When the toddler refuses to put pants on and we are already running late, it really tests my patience! I am such a schedule-keeper and babies don’t always play nice with schedules. For me, that has been the most challenging part of motherhood. But … I do love a good challenge!

Blog

I am excited to be a contributor for Birmingham Moms Blog so I can share my motherhood experiences with other moms. I believe that every mom has a story to tell and I am looking forward to sharing mine. I may not be an expert at anything, but I hope I that I can relate to other moms in Birmingham by sharing my perspective on Birmingham mom life. I think that I have a unique perspective on motherhood from my time spent in the early childhood education field before having children. I hope that it enables me to share from both sides: what the textbooks say vs. real world experience.
