Birmingham

We’ve only lived in the Birmingham area since August, but I’ve wanted to live here for ages. Somehow God just saw fit to make that happen. We landed in McCalla when my husband did a big ole career move recently. He quit being a school psychologist in South Louisiana to answer his calling to full-time ministry. Now I’ve added youth pastor’s wife to my résumé.

What I love most about Birmingham is that the opportunities are nearly endless! We are so lucky to live in an area that offers the best of the big cities (all the food!) and the beautiful parks. Our family loves camping. Being smack dab in the middle of state parks makes that so much easier. If the skies are clear, we’re just minutes away from a great hiking trail. And when we want some great barbeque or want to try the newest coffee shop? Well, that’s just minutes away as well. As a mom, I love to have options. Are we wandering around the zoo this weekend or checking out a museum? Do the boys need fresh air? Then we are headed to the nearest hiking trail.

Moms

Currently, I’m a mom to Harrison (5) and Elliot (1) and sitting in the “third child limbo”. Do we? Don’t we? Can I even handle that balancing act with three little people? Awww, motherhood! I really surprised myself with who I am as a mother. I have more patience than I really anticipated. I tend to be laid back and not tense by their crazy antics. Someone always has a scrape or a bruised head, but that’s just life with wild little boys. I really thought I’d be more flustered about this than I actually am.

Where I struggle the most is time management. Working full-time, then coming home to deal with a full day of tasks in three hours before bed is exhausting. I’ve had to let a few balls drop, and I’m not a big fan of doing that. At the risk of sounding all Downton Abbey, “We have to keep up standards.” It’s a constant struggle.

Blog

I was a contributor at Birmingham Moms Blog’s sister site Lafayette Mom until we moved to McCalla in August. I loved my two years writing for them. With that said, that’s exactly why I am jumping for joy that I get to be a part of this group of ladies. Writing at Birmingham Moms Blog opens up the opportunity to befriend women I wouldn’t meet otherwise. Our paths just wouldn’t cross in daily life. It also opens up the chance to meet y’all, the readers, at events that Birmingham Moms Blog hosts in our area. During my time with Lafayette Mom, I gained life-long friendships and jumped so far out of my box. I grew as a mother, a friend, and as a writer. All those reasons are why I’m ecstatic to now call myself a contributor at Birmingham Moms Blog.
