Whenever I go out to dinner, my first caveat is the restaurant must serve chicken.
I may be the pickiest eater you’ll ever meet; however, I am huge a chicken lover. No matter the restaurant, that’s what I order.
At home, my meal plan includes probably four chicken dishes each week. My family probably does get tired of it, but there are so many ways to make it, I try to mix in a variety of recipes.
I bet there are a lot of other chicken lovers out there, so I wanted to create a list of some of the best chicken around the greater Birmingham area.
Where to Find the Best Chicken in Birmingham:
Fast Food
Obviously my number one is Chick-fil-A. I usually have it for lunch. Multiple times a week. My go to is a #1 no pickle with fries (and ranch) and lemonade. It’s my saved order on the CFA app.
Jack’s chicken fingers. They are just delicious. Crispy and not greasy and great dipped in your favorite sauce. My husband picks the comeback sauce and I go with honey mustard
Zoe’s/Chicken Salad Chick chicken salad. I love Zoe’s with pita chips and Chicken Salad Chick (Classic Carol) with Ritz crackers.
Bojangles. A few times a month we get the family meal and it is a great deal.
Grocery Stores
I love the fried chicken and chicken fingers from both Publix and Winn Dixie. I don’t think I’ve had any from other stores. It sure is easy to pick some up while you’re at the grocery store so you don’t have to cook when you get home!
Sit Down Restaurants
Station 31 Kitchen (Chelsea) – I get the grilled chicken sandwich every single time.
McFly’s Bird Shoppe (Five Points) – I just went here for the first time recently and really enjoyed their chicken fingers. They also have 16 different dipping sauces to choose from!
Eugene’s Hot Chicken (downtown & food truck) – Their food truck comes to our neighborhood each month and after the first time, I was hooked. I love their (mild) chicken fingers dipped in honey mustard.
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken (Lakeview) – I really love the atmosphere at Hattie B’s as much as their chicken. I’m not a hot and spicy fan, so I just get the Southern or mild flavor, and their Pimento Mac & Cheese is incredible.
Saw’s Soul Kitchen (Avondale) – While most people go to Saw’s for the barbecue, their smocked chicken with white bbq sauce is my go to dish.
Other Chicken Options
I checked with my Facebook friends for their favorites and here’s what they said:
Rodney Scott’s BBQ (Avondale) – smoked chicken wings
Champy’s (Alabaster) – fried chicken and chicken wings
Paw Paw Patch (Greensprings Hwy.) – fried chicken
Little Donkey (Homewood & 280) – fried chicken
Johnny Ray’s (various locations) – smoked chicken
Baja Burger (Hoover) – chicken sandwich
Miss Myra’s (Cahaba Heights)
Super Chix (Hoover)
While I haven’t tried the Popeye’s chicken sandwich, several people I know did and most of them liked it but didn’t think it lived up to all the hype.
Did your favorite spot make the list? Who got left out? Please share in the comments so I can continue my quest for the best chicken in Birmingham!
Ash in west homewood has some of the best chicken I’ve ever had.
I’ll definitely have to try some of the ones you’ve listed to compare!
