Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. If you’re looking for a fun, easy craft to do either by yourself or with the kids, I have a great one for you. It’s super easy, inexpensive, and adds a fun little pop of festive fun for the holiday!
What are we making today? Sock Gnomes!
These little gnome guys and gals are popping up everywhere, and they are adorable! You could just go out and buy one, but it’s way more fun to make it yourself. And the kids will love this project, too! My kids are so excited about their little sock gnomes for their rooms.
Let’s Get Started
Here’s what you need:
- Fluffy socks
- Bag of dried rice (or dried beans)
- Hot glue gun
- Craft fur (you can buy small pieces or have it cut off the bolt)
- Rubber bands
- Wood beads
Optional:
- Little hats
- Embellishments
Okie dokie, let’s get started! Cover the bag of rice with one of the socks, then tie off the top with a rubber band.
Next, take the other sock (or hat), and place it on the top of the bottom sock. This is where you’ll get an idea of where you want your placement. Then you’ll take your fur and eyeball the length you want to cut.
I made two girl gnomes, so I cut two strips of fur for each one. Once I had the length I wanted, I glued the fur to the body. If you don’t want little pig tails, or if you want to make a boy gnome, just cut a single piece. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. Just be creative and make it fun!
(FYI: Did you know there are cordless glue guns?! Hurry and get your own, because they are amazing!)
For this gnome, I wanted the little hat to stand up a little, so I stuffed it with a few plastic shopping bags. It’s also a great way to recycle and re-use all your stashed-away plastic bags.
Once you have glued your fur, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Glue the hat to the body and add embellishments. If you made little pig tails, you can top them off with little ribbons. How. Cute. Is. She?!
Aren’t they so cute and easy?! You can make these for any holiday, and they make cute gifts!
We are ready for Valentine’s Day!
