A Review of the Britax Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster Seat {New CoolFlow Collection}

Britax provided me with a child safety seat in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are my own.

We recently hit what felt like a milestone where you realize your baby is not a baby any longer. We moved our four-and-a-half-year-old daughter up from a convertible car seat to the Britax Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster Seat. She looks like such a big girl sitting upright in this tall seat in the back row of our minivan. It’s inevitable that our children will grow up, but sometimes it takes us by surprise!

While I can be sentimental about this at times, I need my oldest to grow up to make room for her two younger sisters! With the birth of our third daughter in the fall, we shuffled around the child safety seats in our van. We moved our oldest to the back row, and I got out the manual to our Toyota Sienna to read up on the instructions for installing a safety seat in the third row. For ease of accessibility, it is likely we will need to install two seats in the back row at some point. I was surprised to find that there are only two locations in the back row that have LATCH capability — and it is not the two outside seats, which would be the easiest (and perhaps only) way to place two car seats on the bench. (Why, Toyota?)

That got me thinking about the best way to install a seat if LATCH is not an option. I remembered hearing about the ClickTight technology from Britax, and I wanted to learn more.

I had an opportunity to attend a conference recently where Britax representatives were in attendance, and as I explained our situation to one representative, she shared her thoughts on which seats would best accommodate our needs. I liked her suggestion of moving the oldest child up from a convertible seat to the Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster Seat (which means we now have three different styles of car seats in our car: infant, convertible, and Harness-2-Booster!) This definitely makes the most long-term sense, as the Frontier ClickTight is able to accommodate kids up to 120 pounds. This is the last child safety seat my daughter will need.

Easy Installation for Non-Engineers :: ClickTight Installation System

I was really excited when the Britax Frontier ClickTight was delivered. I usually am content to let my engineer husband install the car seats (I have participated before, so I can do it if I absolutely have to; however, it’s one of my very least favorite tasks), but this time I was excited to try my hand at installation using the ClickTight technology I had heard was so simple. Let me tell you — it really is as simple as they say!

Weighing 25 pounds, the seat itself is a bit bulky. Since my van is the seat’s permanent home, I was not deterred at all by the size or weight of the seat. Once I hefted it onto the back row of the van, I simply had to open the ClickTight compartment, thread the vehicle seat belt through, buckle the seat belt, and click the compartment on the seat closed. Easy, peasy! The instructions in the manual were very straightforward, and I was done with installation in a matter of minutes.

Huge Draw for the Southern Mom :: CoolFlow Mesh Fabric!

Another huge draw for this safety seat is the new CoolFlow mesh fabric option Britax released early this spring that improves air flow and keeps kids cooler and more comfortable. Summer is basically here in the South, and we know it will stay a while. It is already heating up to high temps, and we are blasting the a/c when we’re out and about during the days. When I removed the seat my daughter had been using previously, I realized how deeply stained it was from so many months of absorbing sweat from her sweet little legs. This new mesh fabric option is going to be a game changer for those of us in hot climates! This reason alone makes the new Britax line worth checking out.

Additional Specifications and Highlights to Consider

Here are a few highlights of the Britax Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster Seat:

  • The forward-facing harness accommodates children weighing from 25 (at age 2) – 90 pounds and measuring 30 – 58 inches when standing (12.5 – 20.5 inch shoulder height when seated).
  • The belt-positioning booster seat can be used for children weighing 40 – 120 pounds and measuring 45 – 62 inches when standing (15 – 23 inch shoulder height when seated).
  • The ClickTight Installation System is an excellent option for safe and easy installation that assures your little one is properly protected in your vehicle. (LATCH can also be used, if preferred.)
  • An impact-absorbing base, a steel frame, and an extra layer of SafeCell side impact protection safeguard your child.
  • The nine-position harness easily adjusts with the push of a button as your child grows and requires no re-threading.
  • There are multiple recline options for maximizing your child’s comfort.
  • The seat has a nine (9!) year use period from the time of manufacture before it expires.

I’ve had my daughter in the Frontier ClickTight now for several weeks, and she and I are both really happy with the new seat. Installation was a breeze (important), it’s extremely comfortable for her in our hot Southern climate (very important), and I know she is in a very safe seat (most important).

We have been pleased with all the Britax products we have bought over the years, and this product certainly upholds the high standard of quality we have come to expect from this company. When Baby Sister is ready to move out of the infant seat, we will do another shuffle. With the safety, quality, and longevity it offers, the Britax Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster Seat will be our go-to choice for our middle daughter, who is soon going to be a preschooler!

When researching your options for your older toddlers, preschoolers, and young school-aged kids, be sure to check out this seat in the new CoolFlow line. I expect you will be just as happy with it as our family has been.

Time to hit the road!
