Celebration Fun :: Spring Party Ideas

0

Spring is here! Pastels, petals, frogs, bugs, and rain . . . all these things make spring special. And then there are spring birthdays, barbeques, and the best excuse ever: a sunny day! April and May birthday parties and celebrations for kids can be fun for all; and the best part is, they can be inexpensive. All you need is a little creativity, imagination, and great outdoor space (oh yeah, and me as your idea guide!) Check out a few ideas, tips, and tricks below!

Party Planning for Kids :: Three Tips for Success

Sometimes we parents get carried away when it comes to celebrating the births of our tiny humans; but sometimes (most of the time) it’s not needed! Which brings me to . . .

Tip number 1: THINK SIMPLE. Let’s be honest, all our children want in reality is a wide open space, good treats, and lots of friends to scream with and chase! So give them just that! There is no need to go above and beyond what the children want, especially when they give specific details in their request.

Tip number 2: BE PRACTICAL. For Karsyn’s 5th birthday, we gave her a Minnie Mouse party in the park. It was so mouska-fabulous! There were balloons and centerpieces and cake pops and pinks, purples, and polka dots . . . but the best part of the whole celebration were the small practical things we offered. For food, we provided pizza and variety bags of chips (because what kid doesn’t like pizza and what parent doesn’t mind spending $5.00 a piece on 6?) and cake pops instead of cake (because we all know that those big fabulous cupcakes go to waste). We gave out goody bags too; but instead of being filled with candy and useless nick knacks, they were filled with sunglasses, bubbles, balls, and jump ropes. Why? Those are things that kids play with over and over when they are outside. BE PRACTICAL! Spend money on tangible things that kids can reuse and have fond memories of.

Tip number 3: DIY! Kids love DIY and so do we. Anything that we can make ourselves can cut lots of costs, and anything that kids can DIY makes parties last longer. Aim to give kids a wonderful hands-on experience at any party. The best part of this tip is that anything can be DIY — just check Pinterest (my fave!!!).

Now for some theme ideas. I have three party themes perfect for the spring, for both girls and boys, in or outdoors. You can use these as they are or change them up for your precious little ones!

Ideas for Spring Party Themes

Take Me Out to the Ball Game {Baseball Theme}

Why not celebrate a birthday by hitting a home run?! Use the park as your field or an actual baseball field and have fun! Concessions can include hot dogs, nachos, and soda. Play a game of baseball or have t-ball relay races. The sky is the limit for this super spring birthday theme.

Blooming Birthday Fun {Garden Theme}

Call the kids, grab some plastic cups or small pots, buy some seeds, and party away! This is a perfect spring theme because it is fun, educational, and can be DIY! Kids can paint the pots and then plant the seeds, take them home, and watch them grow over time (P.S. grass seeds grow inside and outside). Choose whatever snacks you like for this party and use pastel or bright colors for desserts and decorations.

Baskets of Birthday Fun {Picnic Theme}

This is a great party theme that can go far with just a little bit of imagination. Pull out the blankets and baskets, find a big open space, and set up shop! Sandwiches and finger foods are ideal for this theme; and games with balls, bubbles, and jump ropes will make this picnic theme perfect for a birthday celebration!
