Superheroines in Disguise :: A Celebration of Single Mothers

0

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a superhero? Or what it takes to be one? To my mommies out there, did you know that you’re superheroes? Think about it! Think about all the super things we do on a daily basis: saving kids from kid things, cooking, cleaning, shopping, working, wife-ing. I mean, I could go on and on. We are super! We should be celebrated every day.

A superhero breaks the mold and shows the ability to go above and beyond for citizens. The same is true for super single moms. Every day you super special moms go to infinity and beyond to provide for the tiny humans you gave life to, and you do it ALONE! With that said, this post is for you!

Superheroines in disguise :: a celebration of single mothers

Super Single Mom, you are a ROLE MODEL

All children need role models. Psychology tells us that behavior is learned and that modeling from adults shapes behaviors in children. Houses with moms and dads can teach and model girls to be girls and boys to be boys, but single moms teach both. At times, you take on a masculine role and do your very best to produce great human beings. You have uncomfortable conversations, you get down and dirty, you do girly things, you exemplify what a great human being should be.

Super Single Mom, you are a TREASURY

You take everyday expenses that are covered by two-parent households and cover them single-handedly. You also financially support extracurricular activities, holidays, and every now and then, you spend money on yourself. You also do for other people financially when you can.

Super Single Mom, you are STRONG

You handle emotional breakdowns, temper tantrums, bad days, and everything else in between. Not only that, you handle people’s opinions of single mothers. You handle judgments, criticisms, and putdowns from strangers, and even sometimes from family members. You have the ability to smile and continue on even though inside you are sad or upset.

Super Single Mom, at times you are a MOTHER and FATHER FIGURE

As Father’s Day approaches, I realize that for some single mothers this is a difficult time. Because of that, I want to offer some words of sincere encouragement. Father’s Day celebrates great fathers, but it also recognizes and pays homage to great father figures, and that includes you. You are the role models who teach princes to be bold, strong, and protect others. You instill  masculine qualities that boys need to grow up in the world. You also humbly take steps back and allow other positive males to influence your children in ways that only men can. You recognize the need for male influence, and you do your best to adhere to that need.

Super Single Mom, you are SO MUCH MORE . . .

Fearless — You take risks and make moves that will benefit you and your children, without hesitation.

Transparent — You allow people to see your flaws and moments of weakness. You ask for help when you need help without ego or arrogance.

Strategic — You always have a Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C.

Beautiful and Fabulous — You are a mother, a friend, a sister, a confidant, a therapist, a diamond. Take pride in yourself and realize that you possess qualities that some women do not have yet.

You are empowered. You are encouraging. Super Single Mom, YOU ARE AMAZING!!
