Birmingham

If I told you the number of times my family moved growing up, you might think we were a military family. My dad actually worked in banking, but move around we did.

Before my first day of sixth grade at Liberty Park Elementary

I was 12 years old the first time we moved to Birmingham and I cannot say that it was “love at first sight”. I was terrified about the possibility of tornadoes. I was at the peak of awkward adolescence. And, as an introvert, making new friends did not come easily to me. But over the next few years, I made friends, got involved at church, and fell in love with a dance studio. So, when my parents told us we would be moving again, I was heartbroken.

Halfway through my sophomore year of high school, we packed up and settled in Charlotte, North Carolina. All I wanted to do was move back to Birmingham. Nine months later, we did exactly that. I got to graduate from Vestavia Hills High School (where I started). I attended college at The University of Alabama, where I received my undergraduate degree in human development and my graduate degree in library and information studies. Throughout college, there was never a doubt in my mind that I would return to Birmingham. I love living here!

Moms

I met my husband, Jon, at our church, and after six months of dating and five months of engagement, we were married in 2014 (I’ll skip over the story of how I had to come to my senses and realize that he was the right guy). Our son Jason was born in 2016. He has a head full of red hair and all the personality to go with it! He was born on the large side (9 pounds, 1 ounce) and has not slowed down since. Chasing, wrestling, and entertaining him can get exhausting fast, but the second he hits me with that blue-eyed grin, I know I can keep going.

When I was younger and was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always the same, “a mom”. I wasn’t necessarily in a hurry to get here, but I have always felt that my calling in life is to love and care for my husband and child (hopefully children, someday). I am a vacation planner for all Disney Destinations (Girl Meets Mouse) and a part-time librarian. I LOVE both of my jobs, but the time that I feel most joyful, peaceful, and “myself” is when I am doing everyday things like laundry, cooking, and cleaning.

Blog

I have never considered myself “the best” at anything. I don’t see myself as being especially talented or unique. I actually believe I am quite ordinary. But, that is exactly why I am excited to be a part of Birmingham Moms Blog! What I am is a real mom, a real wife, a real woman who is not afraid to let my guard down and talk about life. I have good days and bad days. I have days where I think my son is the most adorable precious angel and days where I wonder if he has been possessed by the creature from the black lagoon. I have received so much encouragement from other mamas and hope that I can offer the same to you.
