Birmingham

Skyscrapers, bustling towns, crowds, congestion, fast-paced life, noise, and amazing food: I was surrounded by it all growing up in New York. Though that was all familiar to me, I had a little place tucked away for all things Southern. The sweet charm that comes with living in the South was always something that intrigued me. The slow, sweet hospitality of life in the South was something I loved, but I didn’t know if it would ever fall into the puzzle of my life. Fast forward to my twenties and I found myself living in northern Alabama. At 25, I married my husband, after being friends and dating for a few years leading up that. We moved to Birmingham to start our new little life and instantly fell in love with this city that we now call home.

While we still have roots in the northeast with family living there, we are really enjoying creating a sweet life of our own with our four children. Birmingham has proven to be such a breath of fresh air for raising a family, from all the family-friendly (and delicious) restaurants, to the parks to play, walk, or hike in. Our family is a big fan of spending summer nights at Regions Park watching the Barons play, or grabbing a cold ice pop or cone on a hot summer day at Steel City Pops or the Mountain Brook Creamery. The people are what really captured our hearts, though. Southern hospitality is a real thing in Birmingham, and that is at the heart of our family values.

Moms

I am a mom to twin five-year-old boys, a daughter born exactly two years later (all three share a birthday, completely unplanned, too!), and a two year old who was born at 2 1/2 pounds. He was a true itty bitty miracle for our family! Raising four kids ages five and under (at one point for a few weeks they were all ages two and under!!!) has been my greatest challenge. I am surrounded by other beautiful women who are raising many children, but what I have yet to fully connect with is more moms that have this many, this close. Motherhood has brought the best and the hardest days. It has brought many challenges, but most importantly, so many incredible blessings and wonderful memories. I am a stay-at-home and homeschooling mom, so I spend pretty much all of my time raising these sweet little hearts. While I am not putting my full focus on our family, I love to dream of days spent on 30a, take photos (usually of our crazy life), write, paint, and plan parties and gatherings.

Blog

I may not have any particularly unique perspectives on motherhood that haven’t been mentioned at some point before; but with four little ones, ages five and under, in my mixed days of “survive or thrive,” perhaps I may have something to offer and share with other moms in this wonderful city we all call home.

Mary Anne F
Mary Anne is a wife to Gus of seven years and Momma to Gus, Will, Zelie, and David. When she and her husband married, their life as a family of two quickly grew when a month before their first anniversary their twin boys were born. Two years, to the day, their daughter arrived. And shortly after, their surprise miracle baby arrived, prematurely at two and a half pounds. Needless to say, their family life is filled with joy but can feel like quite a daily circus! Mary Anne grew up in New York and her husband in D.C. but both met in Alabama and have lived here for 13 years. Birmingham became home to them after their wedding and ever since, they’ve fallen in love with this town. They’ve found “their spots” and enjoyed watching their family settle and grow in this sweet Southern city that they call home. Mary Anne spends her days homeschooling her little ones, taking them to sports and activities, and going on adventures around town. When she is not teaching or focusing on being a momma (when is that?!), she works with Young Living, always finding new fun ways to clean and remedy little problems. For fun she likes to plan parties, dabble in painting and photography, spend time keeping up with close friends, including her best friends in NY and FL, and when time permits, travel to her beloved 30a.
