Birmingham

The youngest of three children, I grew up in a small town in north Jefferson County. And by small, I mean Corner had one traffic light.

My parents had me when they were almost 40, so it was like being an only child. (It worked out great, and I’m still super close to them to this day.)

I moved to Birmingham my junior year of college (1999). I graduated from UAB with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, but never pursued the broadcast side, just the journalism.

After getting married, my husband Todd and I lived in Inverness for a year before buying our first house in Chelsea in 2005.

I love living in the Birmingham area and seeing how the city continues to grow and evolve. There are so many great places and things to do for families. We love venturing out around different areas and trying new restaurants and activities.

Moms

My husband Todd and I have been married for 13 years and have a son, Carson (8), who is in third grade, and a daughter, Morgan (3), who goes to preschool three days per week. Some people say if they’d had their easy child first, they would have had more. Well, we had our hard one first, and that’s why they are five years and three months apart!

Although we thought we’d have two boys, I do love that we had one of each. The differences between them are crazy. I stopped working full-time after Carson was born and have worked part-time and freelance jobs for the past eight years so I could stay home with them. It’s been hard in a lot of ways, but I will always treasure getting to spend time with them before they go off to Kindergarten.

I have so many great mom friends, and I love getting advice from them, venting when needed, and enjoying playdates.

Doing the majority of my work from home, it has been quite a challenge figuring out how to balance all the things. Some days, I do great. Others, I fail miserably. My days start early and end late.

Whenever there is some “me” time in my schedule, you can find me at Starbucks, Target, getting a pedicure, or spending time with my girlfriends.

Blog

I am so excited to be a BMB contributor because writing is what I do. I have loved reading the blogs from the first round of contributors and am excited to be a part of this amazing group of moms.

This will also give me a creative outlet to share with other area moms. I look forward to writing about ways to save money, balancing work and family, and just the honesty of the challenges of everyday parenting.

We are all moms, just trying to do our best every day, and I’m glad to be on this journey together.
