I have recently been looking for ways to cut spending at our house. I’ve never been one to spend a lot on my hair or nails, and I rarely buy clothes for myself. I grocery budget the best I can, and we switched from cable to a streaming service years ago.
Recently, as I was looking for a rainy day activity to complete with my toddler, I happened across a recipe for homemade bath bombs. My son loves fun things like this at bath time, so I decided we would make them. Then it occurred to me, we needed a gift for an upcoming birthday party. So, why not give the gift of bath time fun?!
These fizzies required only six ingredients, five of which I already had. My son and I had fun making them! We packaged them in mason jars with cute ribbon and voilà! A cute–but inexpensive–gift and an entertaining activity, all in one! My friends, be warned, all of your children may receive these from us in the future! Here are the directions:
DIY Bath Bombs {a budget-friendly gift!}
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups baking soda
- 1/2 Cup cream of tartar
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- Essential oils
- Food coloring (if desired)
- Water in a spray bottle
Directions:
- Mix together the baking soda and cream of tartar in a large bowl.
- Sift into a new bowl to thoroughly mix.
- Add olive oil and 15-20 drops of essential oil and mix.
- Add 5-10 drops of food coloring and mix.
- Continue to mix while spraying the ingredients with water from the bottle.
- Repeat until the mixture holds together but does not feel “wet.” *It should feel like kinetic sand.*
- Pack mixture tightly into molds (I used ice cube trays) that have been covered in plastic wrap.
- Allow to dry for two to three hours.
- Remove bath bombs from molds.
- Enjoy!
